Our Vision
Tracing the origins, Japanese performing arts began as ancient offerings to god and have been deeply rooted in the customs of each region. While Nihon Buyo (Japanese dance) saw significant direct development from Kabuki, we must, at the same time, never forget the rich wellspring of all Japanese performing arts – namely, their essence, nurtured by the land and dedicated to the deities.
In our practice space, we prioritize the divine, emphasizing technique, righteousness, and etiquette, nurturing through dance. We believe that being a good person, in accordance with divine teachings, is essential for performing well. Japanese dance uniquely expresses internal emotions and unspoken feelings, beyond mere external techniques. In Tendō-ryū, we teach Shinbuyo style dance, which is more approachable, based on classical styles yet set to popular songs and contemporary music, making it easy for anyone to start.
Nihon Buyo (Japanese dance) is an excellent discipline, valuable not only for the goal of mastering the dance itself, but also for its benefits in maintaining health and achieving spiritual unity.

日本の芸能は、その起源をたどると、古くは神々への奉納に始まり、それぞれの土地の風習に深く根差してきました。日本舞踊は、直接的には歌舞伎から大きな発展を遂げたものですが、その一方で、日本の芸能全体の豊かな源流、すなわち神々に捧げられ、風土に育まれた本質を決して忘れてはなりません。天童流の稽古場では、まず神を第一に、技・義・礼を念頭において、踊りを通して優れた人間性を育むことを大切にしています。まず良い人間であることが、良い踊りをするためには欠かせないと考えています。日本舞踊は、外面的なテクニックだけでなく、内面的な感情や言葉にできない思いを表現する魅力があります。天童流では、新舞踊というスタイルを用い、古典舞踊を基に、どの世代からも親しみやすい歌謡曲や現代音楽に合わせた作品を創作しており、どなたでも気軽に始められます。日本舞踊は、舞踊の習得という目標に加えて、健康維持や精神の統一といった面でも、非常に優れた芸道と言えるでしょう。

Tendo-ryu Overview
Miki Tendou
Tendo-ryu Iemoto
Miki Tendō, the head of Tendō-ryū, under Izumo Shōsen (Yanosuke Bandō) for many years and established the Tendō-ryū in 1981. With its headquarters in Niigata, the school has branches in Kyoto, Iwate, the United States. Not only performing domestically but also internationally, and dedicating efforts to training dancers, the group received an honorary award from Las Vegas as a distinguished group representing Japanese culture.
天童流家元。出雲松扇（坂東弥之助）に師事し、1981年に独立後、天童流を創流。新潟を本部とし、京都・岩手・アメリカに支部を設ける。国内のみならず海外への公演に出演、また舞踊家育成に尽力し、ラスベガスからは、日本文化を伝える名誉あるグループだとし、名誉表彰をされる。
Mikiou Tendou
2nd Iemoto /Joestu, Niigata branch Instructor
As the second-generation head of the Tendo school, apprenticed under Tendo Miki. Dedicates efforts to training young dancers at the Joetsu class. Actively performs on various stages, supports young dancers, and contributes in fields beyond dance, such as kimono dressing.
天童流二代目とし、天童美輝に師事。上越教室の舞踊家を育て上げ、また未来を担う若手育成に尽力する。国内・国外の数々の舞台出演だけでなく、若手舞踊家の様々なサポートに力を注ぎ、着付けなど、舞踊以外の方面でも活躍。
Kigaou Tendou (Shiho Tendou)
3rd Iemoto / Los Angeles school instructor
As the third-generation head of the Tendo school, currently dedicated to promoting traditional culture in Los Angeles, USA. After graduating from Nihon University of Art, pursued further studies at the graduate level. Studied under Otowa Kikuhiro since 2006, learning the essence of Kabuki dance. Performs extensively across America and is committed to nurturing children with Japanese roots at a children's dance school. Additionally, provides creative and choreographic guidance to actors and artists.
現在アメリカ合衆国ロサンゼルスで伝統文化の促進に尽力している。日本大学芸術学部卒業後、同大学院に進学。2006年より音羽菊公に師事し、歌舞伎舞踊の真髄を学ぶ。アメリカで年間多くの公演をこなし、子供舞踊塾で日本にルーツのある子供たちの育成に励む。他、俳優・アーティストの創作や振付指導をこなす。
Baikoki Tendou
Las Vegas school instructor
Leading the Tendo School's Las Vegas branch, she trains numerous students of all ages, focusing on choreography and stage performances. She organizes an annual stage event in Las Vegas, and because of her dedication, Tendo-ryu Las Vegas group has been honored with an award from the city.
天童流ラスベガス支部をまとめ、年齢にかかわらず数多くの生徒を育成。振付や、舞台出演に励む。年に一度ラスベガスでの舞台を催し、多くの称賛を得ると同時に、市からは名誉賞を称えられている。
